Aug. 18, 2009, will be remembered as an important day in Air Force history. The 24th Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, was activated in a ceremony presided by Air Force Space Command Commander, Gen. C. Robert Kehler. It is the Air Force’s newest numbered Air Force. Maj. Gen. Richard Webber is the 24th Air Force’s first commander.
“Today is an historic event. Our service will present a full spectrum of cyber capabilities,” General Kehler said.
The focus of this numbered Air Force is to defend the Air Force from cyber intrusions. The 24th Air Force has the advantage of giving the Air Force a single face to the Joint warfighter, and it will provide synergy, General Kehler continued.
So much of what the Air Force does is on a network, so cyber intrusions are an ever-present danger, he said.
General Webber added that the Air Force has taken another step, and that there will be room for much discovery.
